Welcome to the British Columbia Fibromyalgia Society

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic, complex pain syndrome involving widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance and other symptoms for which the cause is currently unknown. Recent research has suggested the involvement of the central nervous system in the development of fibromyalgia, along with a suspected genetic predisposition.

We are a community based organization dedicated to serving our membership by:

  • providing support to people with fibromyalgia and their families
  • helping to encourage early diagnosis and effective treatment
  • helping educate physicians, paramedical professionals, family
members and the community at large regarding fibromyalgia and its treatment
  • promoting research aimed at improving treatment and ultimately finding a cure

The Society believes that people with fibromyalgia are entitled to care, support and effective treatment and that both support services and research are of vital importance. People with fibromyalgia are entitled to access to all available information regarding fibromyalgia. The Society also encourages the promotion of and validation of lifestyle changes as a result of fibromyalgia.
