My MLA and ME
outreach program
The goal of the campaign is to increase our Society profile and build knowledge and understanding of ME throughout British Columbia’s representative government MLAs.
The purpose of the initiative is to:
-
Build understanding of and support for ME issues with MLA's
-
Influence political policy regarding ME through enhanced understanding
-
Increase access to the political realm when ME issues arise in the future
In April 2021, the Society launched our My MLA and ME program. With success, have connected our Advocates to MLAs in every across the province.
By building a team of advocates and working with an experienced consultant, we have built relationships, increased our profile and raised ME awareness throughout the legislature.
Our cohort-style enrollment supports and guides new and continuing advocates through the steps to build relationships with their MLA. Together, we lessen the individual work-load of singular advocacy efforts and we achieve more momentum as a group!
Members of our Advocacy Committee also engage in direct meetings with Ministry of Health staff to discuss ME medical education and care needs.
-
Form positive and friendly relationships between BC Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and members of the ME community, including family, friends and caregivers
-
Recruit ME champions in the legislature in order to help us address the dire unmet needs of British Columbians living with ME

How you can help
Resources for you
As an advocate, you will be supported with resources that help you connect and interact with your local MLA. By reaching out to MLAs in a coordinated and strategic way, we can make a difference to BC's healthcare for ME. Join us by becoming an advocate.
Sign up to be an advocate - encourage patients and family members to share their stories of life with ME with members of BC’s Legislative Assembly.
Create opportunities for MLA's to develop personal relationships with constituents who have ME or who have personal experience with ME.
Ensure MLA's have a local resource person to discuss ME- related issues when they arise.
We encourage anyone who wants to become involved to come forward. Where possible, we match advocates to their own ridings/MLAs.
Available BC ridings will be listed soon.
