Thanks to many generous donors, this year’s fundraising has been a great success!
Opera Mariposa and the Mariposa Theatre Wing: $15,652.47
Jacqueline and Stephanie Ko, and their wonderful company, Opera Mariposa, have become an important and inspirational part of our local ME community. Both sisters have battled ME since childhood. With the full support of their family, they have been able to realise their own passion, talent and drive, creating an opera and musical theatre company that “stands at the forefront of Vancouver’s opera scene” (The Vancouver Project).
For the last five years, Mariposa has dedicated their May performance to raising awareness and funds for ME & FM. We are honoured that this year’s performance and fundraising efforts were dedicated to our Society.
Jacqueline wrote and performed the gala concert “Here I Stand”, joined by many talented guest artists including her sister Stephanie. The show was incredibly moving, not a dry eye in the house, as Jacqueline punctuated the music with her personal story, along with facts about ME.
Going from opera to musicals to country music, Jacqueline showcased her range, flooring us with her gorgeous operatic voice.
We are so grateful to announce that Jacqueline, Stephanie, the Ko family, and the supporters of their wonderful Opera Mariposa, have donated $15,652.47 for our Society. We will put these funds to great use. To read about our goals and future plans, please go to our website programs page.
We encourage everyone who lives in Vancouver to treat themselves to an Opera Mariposa show this year. You will be truly delighted.

We were able to offer incentives to Top Donors thanks to the generous people who donated fabulous gifts:
Thanks so much to Brishkay Ahmed and Daisy Sanchez-Ziller for pounding the pavements in search of these donors.
And thanks to Liz Tevaarwerk and Ann Vrlak for coming up with the idea, and participating in writing, editing and setup of the campaign.
We are continuing to accept donations until we reach our target of $10,000 for this campaign, so please go ahead and donate and learn more about this campaign.
Fundraising is an important job for an organisation with big goals, so we are establishing a Fundraising Committee. To accommodate the range of disability experienced by our community, we have come to embrace meetings by conference call. This allows people to participate from their beds or couches. If you have skills or interest you can bring to the table, we encourage you to join this committee.
