Our Panel Discussion on Disability Insurance and Disability Assistance for ME and FM patients.
The Canadian Community Health Survey consistently reports that Canadians with ME and FM have the highest rates of poverty among people with chronic health conditions. Unable to work full-time, or even part-time, most depend on government or private insurance for disability assistance. Applying for either is usually extremely challenging for patients due to stigma and misinformation.
The panel will look at issues around Disability Insurance and Income for ME and FM patients. The professionals on the panel will consist of Dr. Ian Hyams, Sam Turcotte (Disability Alliance BC), Martin Willemse (insurance denial lawyer), Angela McCue (a patient and lawyer), and Sherri Todd (BC director for National ME/FM Action Network and long-time advocate).
This event will follow the Society's AGM. Please note that there will be a 30 minute break with refreshments for those attending both events to allow for rest.
We will be live-streaming the panel discussion if you would like to watch from home. People viewing online will have opportunity to submit questions during the presentation.
The Live stream will go live at 2:50 pm (PST) on Sunday, 17 September:
