Dr. Sarah Townsend

Sarah Townsend, PhD, (retired) has lived with ME for 25 years. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at UBC. She taught Advanced Immunology and her laboratory researched how cells of the immune system talk to each other and turn each other on and off. Her work contributed to new treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases, and a technique she invented continues to be helpful to scientists, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sarah is most herself engaging in wide-ranging, nerdy conversations, and spending time outdoors in the mountains. Her timer has become her best friend, helping her do things in tiny chunks to avoid crashes.
