The Board of Directors is thrilled to announce that Kati Deblic has accepted an Lifetime Honorary membership in the ME|FM Society of BC!
Kati Debelic has been a patient living with ME since her diagnosis in 2008. With a professional background in nursing, Kati is dedicated to medical research and supports a patient partnership approach. She served our organization in this capacity as an outstanding patient advocate. Her promotion and dedication to furthering ME research was the core of her work. Kati initiated and participated in the society’s research committee, represented the society at the research collaborative ICanCME and contributed significant work on the Society's advocacy initiatives, research projects and social media efforts.
Kati was also instrumental in initiating and bringing a team together in our collaboration with Dr. Xaiowei Song, to undertake our MRI research pilot project “ A multimodal MRI study targeting the neuroinflammatory response in the brain of patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)”. This project, all due to Kati’s passion and vision, has just this past month, successfully submitted a concluding research paper which has been published in Medicina, an international journal. We are so incredibly proud of the role our Society has played in this project, and for Kati’s leadership.
In alignment with everything Kati holds true, the MRI project has continued with another, larger project currently underway. Due to Kati, the initial pilot project proved to be worthwhile, and Dr. Song and our Society are continuing the legacy, in successfully acquiring further funding for a larger project which has just begun. Building legacy and inspiring the next generation of champions of research within the society is Kati’s legacy.
Thank you for your dedication, Kati, and congratulations on your ongoing work!
