The information below was initially shared on January 9, 2026.
In November, researchers at the University of East Anglia announced a blood test that diagnoses ME/CFS with 96% accuracy.
Let that sink in!
For years, many of you have been told your illness is "all in your head." This test proves what you already knew: ME/CFS has a clear biological signature. It's measurable. It's real.
"For the first time, we have a simple blood test that can reliably identify ME/CFS — potentially transforming how we diagnose and manage this complex disease." — Prof. Dmitry Pshezhetskiy, University of East Anglia

The test works by examining how DNA folds inside cells — patterns that are distinctly different in people with ME/CFS. Researchers believe this same approach could lead to a diagnostic test for Long COVID.
Research Is Accelerating
This wasn't the only breakthrough in 2025:
DecodeME, the largest genetic study of ME/CFS ever conducted (15,000+ participants), identified eight genetic variants linked to the condition — with several pointing to immune responses triggered by infections
NIH researchers found evidence of overactive immune responses that may trigger the chronic inflammation and post-exertional malaise you experience
German researchers showed significant symptom improvement in patients treated with immunoadsorption — strong evidence that autoimmunity plays a role
The puzzle pieces are coming together. Scientists now understand that ME/CFS involves the immune system, energy metabolism, the autonomic nervous system, and neuroinflammation — all feeding each other in ways that perpetuate symptoms.
This isn't fringe research anymore. This is mainstream science taking your illness seriously.
